My First Sale!

My First Sale!

Today was my first day ever to sell my handmade linocut Christmas cards! The bazaar was held at the beautiful St. Columba Catholic Church. I was very nervous to put my art out for sale. Since it was my first time setting up a booth, it took my fiancé (he's so supportive!) and I about an hour to get everything just right.

The tables were provided, so all we needed was a table cloth, decor, props, and the cards of course! Since my cards can double as prints, I placed a few cards in picture frames to provide various examples of how they could be displayed. I shopped in my home for the Christmas decor and thrifted the baskets and cute sleigh to prop the cards up in. We loved to meet the other nice vendors around us. The next morning, we brought my laptop to display the process video- which was a great hit with the customers. I highly recommend displaying your art-making process in some type of way. It seemed to help visually establish that the products are indeed handmade, and it helped draw and retain people at my booth. A similar effect happened when I decided to physically show customers the linoleum plates I used to make the prints. I encouraged my customers to feel the linoleum and to someday give carving a try.

All of the preparation of creating a inviting experience for my customers was worth it. I made my first sale, my fiancé and I looked at each other in awe- chin dropped, eyes wide, with a big smile! I can't wait for my next bazaar!
